More About Sabo
Sabo is the Chief of Staff of the Revolutionary Army, or the number 2, right behind Monkey D. Dragon. He is the sworn brother of Monkey D. Luffy and Portgas D. Ace.
Sabo comes from a noble family, but he ran away when he was young to live in the Gray Terminal, where he befriended Ace. After a few years, he also became friends with Luffy, and the trio became sworn brothers after swearing an oath of brotherhood over sake.
Sabo set sail on his own in an attempt to achieve his dreams to have pirate adventures around the World and become a great pirate. He wanted to write a book that journals and records everything he would see and the places he would go.
Unfortunately, his boat was shot and destroyed by a Celestial Dragon. He was then saved by Monkey D. Dragon and joined the Revolutionary Army. Initially, part of his memory was lost and he couldn’t remember Ace and Luffy. However, even after his memories came back to him (after reading about Ace in the papers), he didn’t leave the Revolutionary Army to chase his dream again.
Despite the fact that Sabo is the son of a noble, he doesn’t act like them and doesn’t even consider himself a noble.
He now wields the power of the Mera Mera no Mi devil fruit (Flame-flame fruit), a logia-type fruit that allows him to create, control, and transform into fire at will. The fruit once belonged to Portgas D. Ace, the son of the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger.
Sabo’s current look or appearance is similar to the one he had when he was a child. He wears a long black jacket with a buckle on a sleeve, a blue shirt, vest, and a pair of light-blue pants with black boots. He also has own brown gloves and his iconic top hat with goggles.
His appearance is similar to Arthur Dodger, a character from Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. Arthur was also a part of a gang of thieves when he was a child, wears a top hat, and a coat with his sleeves rolled up. Oda is known to draw inspiration from other famous or legendary characters from all of the World.
Both sworn brothers, Sabo and Ace, have always been protective of their little brother Luffy. Coincidentally, both of them were introduced in the anime and manga when Luffy was going to go head first against a Shichibukai. Ace protected Luffy from Captain Smoker and Sabo protected him from Fujitora and Burgess.
