About Monkey D. Luffy

Monkey D. Luffy, also known as “Straw Hat Luffy” or “Straw Hat”, is the grandson of Monkey D. Garp, a super famous and powerful Vice Admiral of the Marines, and son of the Supreme Commander of the Revolutionary Army, Monkey D. Dragon. Luffy is the captain of the infamous pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates.

Luffy is the sworn brother of Fire Fist Ace and Chief of Staff of the Revolutionary Army, Sabo. He is part of the worst generation that the World Government keeps a close eye on.

The anime and animated series starts off with him in the East Blue region. Luffy earned himself the title of the pirate with the highest bounty in East Blue, after defeating the strongest pirate crews there.

Luffy wields the power of the Gomu Gomu no Mi devil fruit, a paramecia-type fruit that makes him a rubber human. This means that his body takes on the properties of rubber. The fruit originally belonged to Shanks’ crew, but was eaten by Luffy.

Straw Hat Luffy’s goal or dream is to become the Pirate King one day, by finding the greatest treasure left behind by Gol D. Roger. He is extremely loyal to his crew and crew members (nakama), and is regarded and admired by many as a great captain. His fighting style is mainly hand-to-hand combat.

Luffy is known for his iconic Straw Hat, earning his crew the name “the Straw Hat Pirates” and him, “Straw Hat” or “Mugiwara Luffy”. He also has a scar under his left eye.

He has also spent some time training at Amazon Lily where he was sent to by Bartholomew Kuma, former Shichibukai. This was where he met the Pirate Empress and Shichibukai, Boa Hancock, and where she also fell in love with him 😍
